Who Am I?
"Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them." [Genesis 1:26-27]
You are made in the image of God.
Out of all the creatures God made, He only made one in His image. Us... humanity...
This does not mean we are gods. We are not God. We never will be God. But, God made us in His image. That means you are unique among all of God's creation. You are important to God. You carry the image of God.
We are made in the image of God. That means we are similar (but not identical) to God in some respects. For example, we are similar in our ability to make ethical choices, our spiritual nature, our dominion over the earth, moral purity and immortality.
That's right, immortality. You will live forever, but the question is where?
Darwin Says...
Darwin says that you are nothing more than slim that crawled out of a swamp. Billions of years ago the earth was randomly formed. Over billions of years rain washed dirt, sand and minerals into the oceans. From that muck single cell life formed spontaneously, and it eventually randomly evolved into you. Your ancestors are dirt. You came about as a result of random chance. You'll return to dirt. You are nothing special, just $4.95 worth of chemicals that randomly came together.
But that's not reality. Here's what God says.
God created you in His image. He did not create you from muck, slime, or junk. He did not create you randomly with no purpose. God desired that you exist. He spoke and mankind was created. God did not need us, and He did not need to create us. God is totally self-sufficient. Yet, God wanted to create you. He wanted you to exist. He wants a relationship with you. He created you in His image. It was not a random act. God intentionally created you. You are an important part of God's plan.
Next question: So... where did I come from?
